Original description
Blackwood Timoty J. (2009) Barneystrombus, a new genus of Strombidae (Gastropoda) from the Indo-West Pacific, with discussions of included taxa and the general morphology of their shells. Visaya 2(5): 11-17
Name etimology: named after Mr. Winston Barney of Forth Worth, Texas, USA.
Distribution
Type locality: West side of Matupi Island, Simpson Harbour, Rabaul, New Britain, Territory of Papua and New Guinea; in pumice bank, 10 feet (3 mt) above sea-level.
Known distribution: Central Philippines, few findings in Malaysia and North Sulawesi. Papua New Guinea (New Britain and New Ireland Islands), Solomon Islands; West Papua (Indonesia) to be confirmed.
Notes
The shell outer lip is inflated, with widely, expanded, uniformly thickened lips as adults, but is not axially reflected; posterior end of lip narrowing to projection or point, giving the aperture a triangulate shape; shoulders often ornamented with large knobs; shell moderately heavy and solid; and an anterior canal that reflected.
